Worst Summer Cooking Injury

1. Avocado Hand

Rice said that avocados are the most frequent food to cause cooking-related injuries. Rice was astonished by this claim. Tri-County Sunday said Rice took care of “a large number” of hand injuries last year after attempting to take avocado pits. Rice stated that every year there are around 50,000 avocado-related injuries. Rice said that the flexor tendon could be injured and stabbed, making it difficult to bend the fingers.

When you slice your avocado, don’t go all Food Network-style. To protect your hands, you could utilize a kitchen towel instead. Or, you can skip the fancy procedure and scoop out the flesh and pit with an ordinary spoon.

2. Melon Mistakes

Rice stated that melons could cause issues in summer cooking. Rice said watermelon was an enormous fruit. Don’t rush when cutting through hard rinds. Cutting into the tough melon’s skin can help reduce your risk of injury. This will give the melon a flat surface to hold onto while you cut it. Some professionals recommend using regular dental floss to separate flesh from the rind. It is also possible to cut individual pieces with similar methods.

Rinse the melon right away after it’s returned from the stand to prevent contamination by bacteria. However, before you slice the fruit, ensure that the knife and surface underneath are clean and dry.

The same principle could be applied to pineapples or spaghetti squash as well as any other food that has an outer layer of hardness.

3. Glassware-related injuries

Rice explained that kitchen injuries can be sustained at any time during the year. Rice noted that washing dishes in hot, soapy water could cause an injury to the skin or even tendon. Gloves are excellent to protect manicures and helping to reduce dryness of the skin. They also allow you to not be cut when dishes are piled up after an extended day.

Rice said that fireworks are one and the same. But it’s not like a blast injury can need to be treated for a second.
